Mashed Potato Fries Recipes and Reviews
Exploring a twist on a classic side dish
Mashed potatoes have always been my comfort food and the older I get, the more I realize the potential of this hole-in-the-wall dish. Here are a few of the mashed potato fries recipes that I have tried, each one different from the other.
If my mother were to make this dish, I believe that this is how hers would look and taste like. It may seem odd, but the most basic supplies paired with the method and above all the love put into these soft, but crunchy fries makes the perfect combination.
- Yukon Gold potatoes
- Chives, fresh and finely chopped
- Butter
- Salt, and pepper to taste
- Breadcrumbs, for the coating
The first step is to boil and change Yukon Gold potatoes into paste by adding butter, salt and pepper to the mixture. The main goal is for the potato mixture to be completely smooth and have no lumps.
Get strips of mashed potatoes that are similar in shape to French fries and roll them in breadcrumbs. Bake or fry the strips until golden brown and the potato is far warmer than the crust (the outer shell) which is certainly a healthy amount.
Sprinkle some new chives on top, it will make the dish taste fresh and aromatic.
Dips to Pair With
Mashed potato fries are truly the best comfort food! The taste of boiled potatoes has never been my favorite but a drizzle of ketchup is a definite must as its vinegar tang truly accentuates the blandness of the otherwise unappetizing boiled potatoes. My favorite addition would definitely have to be the garlic dipped in some ranch especially when cooked with aioli sauce. Of course, ranch dressing with a BBQ sauce is much fiercer and is an outstanding addition, and instantly complements the soft and creamy potato interior.
